A new follow-up meeting of the European LIFE REWAINCER project has been held, in which Euroarce (Grupo SAMCA) participates alongside Facsa , the coordinating entity, and the Institute of Ceramic Technology (ITC). On this occasion, the meeting took place at the facilities of Color Esmalt, a Grupo SAMCA company specialised in the manufacture of frits and other ceramics products.
The LIFE REWAINCER project, with a total investment of €1.3 million until the end of 2026, aims to demonstrate the feasibility of using reclaimed water as an alternative source in industrial processes within the ceramic sector, thereby reducing freshwater abstraction from the aquifers of the province of Castellón and alleviating water stress.
The meeting marked a further step in the project’s development by addressing its potential for replication in the frits and glazes subsector, as the frit production process—like other ceramic processes—requires significant water consumption.
Color Esmalt uses recirculated water in its production cycles, which cand lead to a gradual concentration of salts that may affect the final quality of the frits. In this context, incorporating treated water with low salinity, sourced from the wastewater reclamation facilities developed under LIFE REWAINCER, could help improve the quality of recirculated water and enhance overall process stability.
The session provided an opportunity to analyse the technical specificities of the frit production and assess how the solutions proposed within LIFE REWAINCER could be adapted to this subsector, expanding the project’s initial scope and reinforcing its potential application across different areas of the ceramic industry.
During the session ITC also presented the AQUA2VAL Project, which focuses on the efficient use of water resources and aligns with broader sustainability and industrial water optimisation objectives.
