Euroarce (Grupo SAMCA) is participating in the European LIFE REWAINCER project (New model for the application and use of reclaimed water in industrial environments in the ceramic sector). The project team, coordinated by Facsa and also involving the Institute of Ceramic Technology (ITC), will carry out actions backed by an investment of €1.3 million through to the end of 2026.
This is a demonstration project aimed at providing an alternative water source for the ceramic industry and, therefore, reducing freshwater abstraction from the aquifers of the province of Castellón, thereby lowering water stress.
To this end, water reclamation technologies are being evaluated to obtain water of suitable quality for direct use in industrial processes within the ceramic sector.
A full industrial-scale pilot system will be implemented, consisting of an innovative system for regenerating treated wastewater at the Cabanes wastewater treatment plant (Castellón). This facility will generate an alternative water source of suitable quality to meet the water demand of a spray-dried powder production plant for ceramic tiles manufacturing, through the connection of a distribution network that will allow the entire process to be validated.
The pilot system will be comprehensively monitored in order to assess the technical and economic feasibility of using an alternative water source, its economic and social impact on the ceramic industry, as well as the environmental benefits generated and its impact on the La Plana aquifer in Castellón.
This project is aligned with Sustainable Development Goal 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation), and Sustainable Development Goal 13 (Climate Action).
