The Andorra–Sierra de Arcos Region, a supra-municipal entity comprising nine municipalities in Teruel, has completed the Mining Trails project, which was presented a few days ago at the International Tourism Fair (FITUR). In 2024, Euroarce signed a general collaboration agreement with the region, in five of whose municipalities it currently carries out mining activities.
The Mining Trails initiative has involved the signposting of five routes covering approximately 40 kilometres and crossing five municipalities. Informational panels have been installed to create an “open-air museum” aimed at highlighting this heritage, where visitors, in addition to walking or cycling, can learn about the historical activity of Grupo SAMCA linked to coal and the current operations of Euroarce in clay extraction. The Region has also launched a website offering information, recommendations, interesting facts, detailed insights and access to the routes on Wikiloc.
This collaboration protocol, which forms part of the project Adding Value to the Land, also includes incorporating the region’s suggestions into mining restoration projects. It enables joint efforts to leverage synergies between mining activities and rural tourism, carry out reforestation projects for CO₂ capture, organise cultural and sporting events, promote the creation of pastureland for livestock farming in restored areas, and establish a specialised vocational training centre in the area for mining and mechanical professions.
